Well after several weeks of trying to work on things (and 10 days of waiting for SourceForge) I’ve managed to get the first Beta-build of PowerTray published and available for download.
The initial version has a few interesting features:

Plugin-based architecture to allow for future feature development

Getting WGET for OS X 10.4.x

!!! Geek Alert !!!
Sometime ago Apple removed the tool wget from the OS X toolset and replaced it with the arguably more powerful curl tool. This new tool is great, and it has many new advanced features that the older wget tool lacks. However curl has one thing against it: it’s somewhat […]

Microsoft Joins OpenAjax Alliance

This week Microsoft announced yet another foray into the Open-Source arena.  The company will be assigning ASP.NET team member Bertrand LeRoy to be the company’s liaison to the OpenAjax Alliance starting tomorrow.  According to a post on Scott Guthrie’s blog, one of Bertrand’s focuses will be to ensure that Microsoft’s AJAX technologies (Library & […]

PowerTray

I’m working on a new side-project which I think will be fairly useful for all you Windows users out there.  It’s called PowerTray.  The idea behind it is to have an application which will allow you to do many of your often-repeated tasks quickly and easily and at the touch of a hotkey.
That in […]

DD-WRT: Routers the Next Generation

I realize it’s not a new technology (its on ver. 23), but its one I’ve recently adopted.  We’re planning on doing some re-arranging to put an office in the house, and that means computers in different rooms.  What I need now, I said to myself, is a way of extending my wireless network to […]

GMail-based File Storage

With the advent of Google’s GMail a few years ago, and their explosive increase to 1GB (and subsequently 2GB) of storage in 2005 it was only a matter of time until they opened up the API to allow people to take advantage of GMail’s features.
Enter a series of add-ons for various […]

Open Source - Nintendo Style

Well it certainly didn’t take long to start some new and interesting open-source projects geared around Nintendo’s new darling system. The Wii has inspired the folks over at WiiLi.org to create a version of Linux to run on this next-generation console.
Some of their first projects are to understand the Wiimote and the other hardware […]

DIY Music - Garage Band & MacOS X

I was messing around with the new MacBook last night and decided to take a shot at playing with GarageBand, Apple’s music mixing & recording program that ships with iLife ‘06. At first glance GarageBand appears to be a fairly basic mixing program, allowing you to take samples and loops from its (relatively […]

Microsoft turns over a new leaf?

Subsequent to an article I posted back in April (Microsoft Joins the Free Software Revolution), Microsoft has made another step towards public good-citizenry by making its Open Specification Promise on August 13th.  This declaration states that Microsoft will not assert certain patents that it presently holds, or will hold in the future, around Web Services.
In David […]
