Dubious Milestone: Spam 10K

Just the other day, I noticed that my Akismet Spam filter for the blog had blocked it’s 10,000th Spam comment. That’s a lotta spam.
It’s amazing to me how much Internet bandwidth must be consumed by spam-bots posting to blogs and forums. The official Akismet website hosts a segment they call the Spam […]

MyOpenID and Wordpress

I just found by chance today a new service, and a wordpress plugin for that service!
The service is MyOpenID.com, which provides a persistent login mechanism across websites which support the technology.  This allows you to provide only your MyOpenID.com user account name to sign up for certain sites/services.  This “single-sign-on” technology can greatly reduce […]

In for a penny…

…in for another $24.95 US.
I decided to upgrade my Flickr account because I’ve taken some more pictures I want to upload, but was having to wait until July to post them… not to mention that I couldn’t upload full size photos because it would have only been about 18/month.
So there.  I’ve done it.  Paid […]

Google Search Enhancements today and tomorrow

Those clever gals and guys at the Google Labs are at it again. There’s a new enhanced version (the “universal version”) of search which combines results from image, video and text components in a single search result. This began to appear last weekend in search results from most of the major Google […]

New look for Google Analytics

Last week Google revamped their web-statistics package Google Analytics.  The new look boasts some very web 2.0-ish graphs and provides all the same reports as before.
One of the new features is a drill-down world map, which provides a bit of an easier view of where your visitors are coming from.  Some more detail from […]

Facebook and information privacy

Well it’s been 9 whole days now, and I can officially say I’m a Facebook convert.
At last count, there were 116 people on my friends list. All of whom I’ve been friends with at some point in my past and many of whom I haven’t seen in years… a few almost a decade.
Tonight […]

This week Microsoft announced yet another foray into the Open-Source arena.  The company will be assigning ASP.NET team member Bertrand LeRoy to be the company’s liaison to the OpenAjax Alliance starting tomorrow.  According to a post on Scott Guthrie’s blog, one of Bertrand’s focuses will be to ensure that Microsoft’s AJAX technologies (Library & […]

Oxford Dictionary Welcomes “Wiki” (and others) to the English Language

Late last week Reuters reported that the Oxford English Dictionary has now recognized the word “wiki” as an official word in the English language.
The folks at the Oxford English Dictionary perform periodic updates to the dictionary to keep it current.  Some of the other inductees from the class of March 15 2007 are:
